Smart Export Guarantee - new incentive for Solar PV systems
Financial Incentives are available for Renewable Energy Installations
To meet obligations to reduce carbon emissions the UK Government have introduced a number of financial incentive schemes to encourage the adoption of renewable energy systems. The schemes are available for both domestic and commercial installations, subject to qualifying criteria, for a variety of technologies with schemes available for those which produce heat and those which generate electricity.
- The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) – available for heat producing technologies such as biomass, heat pumps and solar thermal there. Separate schemes exist for domestic and non-domestic installations.
- Feed in Tariff (FiT) – available for electricity generating technologies such as solar PV and wind turbines.
The cost of installing a renewable energy system can be high depending on technology and system size. The available incentives provide a means to finance the installation and in certain situations can be lucrative in providing attractive returns on investment.
